I bought this pair of boots back in 2000, and they've lasted me all this time (17 years and running)! I've worked in a number of different labor roles, as well as using these around the house for building, etc. I've employed a few tricks to keep them lasting all these years. First, on day one, I went to my local shoe repair (cobbler) and had him put on a pair of steel heel guards, also known as heel savers. Cost was roughly $7 for both boots and I've only replaced them once over the years, instead of having to have them resoled. Yes, steel heel guards clack on stone and can be loud, but so what. Second, as soon as something went wrong, like stitching coming loose, I immediately took them to a professional for repair. I own, and regularly wear, two pairs of Red Wings, and a pair of Chippewas, and I can say without a doubt that these Carolinas are my longest lasting and most comfortable boots I've EVER owned.
