The oxford shoe was originally designed as a boot that was popular at Oxford University in the early 1800s. Initially, the oxford was a half boot with a side slit that eventually appeared closer to the instep. This simple adjustment made the design more of a looser-fitting shoe than a heavy, full boot. A timeless design from then on, the derby is a simple lace-up shoe with a comfortable, handsome silhouette.
